I have never really found out much about the history of peg looms, they are so simple though that I imagine that they are very old and date back in some form for as long as people have woven fabric. My mum bought me my first loom for my tenth birthday, it was so easy to pick up that by tea-time I was weaving whilst watching television and had almost finished my first mat.
Peg looms can be used to weave many different things; I have used old clothes, wool, raw fleece and plastic bags. The plastic bag mats have proven to be very popular at LETS (Local Exchange Trading System) meetings and they are being used as bathroom mats, gardening mats, picnic mats and many other things.
